Nancy attended the University of Washington. She was a member of Chi of Phrateres, continuing her interest and attending summer picnics into late in her life. Nancy also started back into nurse's training in California later in life; she was forced to drop out for health reasons.

Nancy was an Advanced Bridge Life Master and continued to play until near her death. She was a member of the League of Women voters; Friends of the Library; past president of the ACBL (American Contract Bridge League), Ventura unit 547, 1973-1974; American Diabetes Association Ventura County Chapter from which she received a Special Recognition award for Time & Service for years 1985-1986; Certificate of Award for Outstanding Achievement in Alpha Gamma Sigma from Ventura College, 1/31/1984; an Alpha Gamma Sigma recognition of Outstanding Service as Treasure, Fall 1993. Nancy can trace a line of descent from Pocahontas.

Nancy was a caring, compassionate woman, with friends all over the world. Her husband, Irv August, had been in the military, then with the Red Cross. The family had lived in Germany and some Stateside military bases before settling in Ventura, CA. Nancy had been raised Christian, loved Christmas holidays, and all the trappings of holidays. She also became a volunteer and participant in the Jewish synagogue social gatherings and charity functions at Ventura. She was a gourmet cook.
