ARCOLA — Walter M. Murphy, 72, of Arcola died at 6:30 a.m. Friday (Sept. 16, 1988) in Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Shrader Funeral Home in Arcola. Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Arcola Cemetery.
He was born May 4, 1916, in Olney, the son of William and Ora Allison Murphy. He married Wanetta Partlow Sept. 8, 1933. She died May 31, 1984. He married Linda Smith Nov. 6, 1984. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Mick of Arcola; two daughters, Mrs. Glen Rosalie Edwards of Arcola and Mrs. Leonard Genny Edwards of Mattoon; three step-sons, Charles Smith of Charleston, Harry Smith of Mattoon and Lowell Smith of Neoga; two step-daughters, Mrs. Jim Karen McKibben of Mattoon and Mrs. Dick Cheryl Tague of Decatur; one sister, Naomi Bowling of Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
He was retired welder from Pan Handle Eastern Pipeline Co. and a member of the Eagles of Mattoon and the Free Methodist Church in Arcola.
