The son of Joseph Lawrence Kirchner and Louise "Caroline" Mueller, Louis enlisted in the United States Army on 15 Jan 1942 and served during World War II. He was a staff sergeant by the time he received his honorable discharge on 10 Jan 1946.

While still in the service, Louis married Lorene Mary Werner on 07 Apr 1943. They were the parents of 5 children.

At the time of his death at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Louis was 90 years, 8 months and 16 days old.

He was survived by his wife, Lorene; 2 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Mary and Arthur Huck, and Deborah and Bob Moser; 2 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, William and Janelle Kirchner, and Mark and Robin Kirchner; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Marian Osterman.

In addition to his parents, Louis was preceded in death by 1 son, Ronald Kirchner; 3 sisters, Florence Zoll, Lucille Bequette and Regina Kirchner; and 1 brother, Anthony Kirchner.

Visitation was held on 24 Oct 2005 at the Wood Family Funeral Home in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. A funeral Mass was conducted at 10 a.m. the following morning at St. Agnes Catholic Church.

The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the St. Agnes School, Valle School or to masses.

Louis' wife, Lorene, passed away in 2010 and was buried next to him.

Children: 2 daughters, 3 sons.
