Harlan Williams "Jim" Northern, 83, Indianapolis, died Oct. 1, 2007. Born Feb. 23, 1924, in Martinsville, he was the son of the late Charles and Bertha Northern. He married Wanita (Searcy) Northern on June 17, 1942, and she survives.
Before retiring in 1987, he was an equipment operator for Waverly Paving for 35 years. After retirement, he worked for Dean Brothers Pump in Indianapolis for 8 years. He attended Pilgrim Chapel in Indianapolis and enjoyed cutting firewood, coon hunting, and fishing.
Survivors include seven children, Darlene Wilson of Martinsville, Gene Northern of Paragon, Maurice Northern of Mooresville, Robert Northern of Morgantown, Virginia Woods of Carmel, Rebecca Hill of Speedway and Joyce Northern of Indianapolis; two sisters, Inez Ellis of Martinsville and Iona Martin of Plainfield; 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Jones Family Morturary in Mooresville, John Bigger will officiate. Calling will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt Pleasant Cemetery in Hall.
