He worked in the Oil Fields as a young man, but spent most of his life working for the City of Ottawa on the Street Department for over 28 years.
On October 27, 1949, Virgil was united in marriage to Cleda Mae Mitchell. She survives of their home.
He is also survived by a two daughters, Pam Sheffield, Ottawa, Sherry Woodward and her husband, Marty, Ottawa; one brother, Ralph Finch, Jr and his wife Candy.; three grandchildren, Andrea "Andi" Gladson and her husband, Rob, Olathe, Adam Wise, Ottawa, Sara Sheffield-Laymance and her husband, Steven, Lawrence; three great grandchildren, Petty Officer 3rd Class YN3 Kelsey Fairbanks, San Diego, California, Marlee Laymance, Lawrence, Madison Laymance, Lawrence.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Arthur Finch; and two sisters, Lucille Clearwater, Ruby Mendell.
Graveside funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 17, 2013 Fouts Cemetery, Rural Ottawa.
