He married about 1829 in TN, Dorothy Turley/Turiel Keck b. 27 Mar 1805 in NC; they had the following children: Christian who married Lourinda Keck, daughter of Christian and Katherine Keck, founders of Kecksville; MacHewell, Samuel Jr. (buried at the Williams Cem.), Lucinda, Mary Ann, Harriett, Nellie, and Louisa Poindexter b. 24 Jun 1832 in Claiborne Co., TN (buried at the Williams Cem.), who married John Robert Ellis.

John C. married Elizabeth Thomas, probably in Virginia. John and Elizabeth were listed as members of the Baptist Church, County Line, Hawkins Co TN which was on the Hawkins-Grainger county line on 18 Mar 1792. They had at least seven children, possibly more.Samuel married Dorothy Turley Keck, Kecksville, Indiana. They moved to Martin Co IN ca 1848. Said to be in Tennessee censuses in 1830 and 1840.
