Marjorie Carey Pavey Byrd, 91, of Hillsboro, died Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Highland District Hospital.

She was born in Wilmington on March 8, 1922, the daughter of the late Dallas J. and Beulah (McElwee) Carey.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard A. Pavey; her second husband, James L. Byrd; two brothers, Harold C. and Charles C. Carey; and son-in-law, James E. Spargur.

She was a member of the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church, a member of the Rachel Circle, the Sabina Chapter #144 Eastern Star for over 50 years and was a past matron in 1950, she was past-president of the Hillsboro Women's Club, Highland County Senior Citizen Club and a member of the Christian Women's Club, and was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Marjorie is survived by her daughters, Jane Ann Spargur of Hillsboro, Mary Elizabeth (Richard E.) Vollmar of Chillicothe, Cathy (David M.) Parry of Hillsboro, Pamela Sue (Dennis) Lafferty of New Vienna; nine grandchildren, Jeffrey D. (Renee) Parry, Timothy R. (Melanie) Parry, Alissa Jo (Terry) Dean, Jacob Vollmar, Ashley (Isaac) Cade, Lisa Ann Spargur, Benjamin Lafferty, Ian Lafferty, and Kathleen Grace Lafferty; several great-grandchildren; stepchildren, James A. Byrd and Terry Griffith; and stepgrandchildren, Lorie B. Amick, Kevin Best and Craig Best.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 17 at Thompson Funeral Home with Dr. Derek Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Sabina Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the Thompson Funeral Home.
