Chico Record, Tuesday Morning, October 27, 1942, pg 8 col 4: Lester S. Smith. Rev. Harris Pillsbury of the Bidwell Memorial Presbyterian Church will officiate at the funeral services to be held this afternoon at one o'clock at the Black and Johnson Funeral home for Lester Sarles Smith, 5 months old son of Mr. and Mrs. Sarles Smith.
The infant was taken ill in Marysville several days ago, where his father is employed on the U.S. Army project at Camp Beale. His parents brought him to Chico for medical care, but he failed to respond and died at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert McKinney on Chico Ave.
Following the funeral services, interment will be in Chico Cemetery.

Four-month-old Lester "Charlie" Smith was interred, per the Chico Cemetery Association Records, in the plot noted, on October 27, 1942.
