Laura Cowmeadow Ambrose

Laura Cowmeadow Ambrose, age 93, passed away on October 21, 2006 in Omak, Wash. Laura was born March 10, 1913 in New Castle, Penn. Laura graduated from New Castle High School and Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania. She came to Okanogan, Wash. in 1947, and married Paul Ambrose in 1949.
She helped her husband operate the Loup Loup Café in Okanogan, and the coffee shop and dining room of the Jim Hill Hotel in Omak. Later, they went into business for themselves as Paul's Catering in Okanogan. Laura taught school in Pennsylvania for nine years and for 17 years in Okanogan, at O'Keefe Elementary School.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her brother, Austin Cowmeadow; and her sisters, Peg Cowmeadow and Mildred Bauman.
She is survived by Tom Ambrose of Green River, Ariz.; and two daughters, Mrs. Curt (Paula) Huffman of Seattle, Wash. and Mrs. Bill (Patty) Heath of Ellensburg, Wash. She is also survived by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the Okanogan County Historical Society, P.O. Box 1129, Okanogan, WA 98840.
By her request, no services are being held. A celebration of Laura's life will take place in the spring of 2007 in Okanogan.
Michael Nearents and Glenn Graves of the Precht-Harrison-Nearents Chapel and the Okanogan County Crematory were entrusted with Laura's care.
