Norma Lewis Wightman

Norma Lewis Wightman died of cancer complications June 11, 2013, surrounded by her daughters at her home in Provo, Utah.
She was born on August 21, 1920, to Wilbert Clayton and Florence Rosetta Johnson Lewis in Kaysville, Utah.
She spent her young years in Eureka, Provo and Spanish Fork, Utah and graduated from Spanish Fork High School. On September 16, 1940 she married Grant Fuller Wightman and they spent their entire married lives in Provo, Utah, where they raised their family.
Norma was a wonderful, conscientious, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She used her top-notch homemaking skills in preparing delicious meals, gardening, canning, making homemade bread, sewing nearly everything her children wore, making fabulous homemade candy at Christmas and creating scores of quilts for all members of her family. Indeed, she created a house of thrift, order, love and cleanliness.
During the 1960's she served as the Utah County Secretary of the Democratic Party. During that time, she was appointed by Governor Rampton to the Governor's Commission for the Blind. She was very active in the local Geneva Steelworkers' Union Auxillary supporting her husband. She also worked as a supervisor during the taking of the 1980 Census.
Norma was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served over the years as a Primary Teacher, a Cub Scout Leader and a Relief Society Quilt Chairman. She loved and appreciated her long-time visiting teachers Rose and Betty.
She had many opportunities to travel during her lifetime and enjoyed it immensely. She and her husband Grant traveled throughout the western states and Hawaii to visit children and extended family members. They also visited several of the great cities of Eastern USA on Union business. Later they traveled to Nairobi, Kenya, Athens, Rome and London. After her husband passed away she traveled with her children to Australia and New Zealand, Albuquerque, New Mexico and then to the Boston area.
Norma had a beautiful singing voice and knew by heart dozens of songs that she loved to sing with her sister, Glowie. She taught a lot of those songs to her children. She was also a professional hand-quilting artist and many of her works of quilting art are on display throughout Utah.
She was a generous neighbor and a great example and helpful friend to many of the young women who were friends of her daughters.
Norma is survived by her children: Linda Fleming (Cliff), Carolyn Jensen, and Maureen Keitz. She has 15 grandchildren: Sydney Ann Wells Meirzwiak (Brent), Allison Fleming Yearout (Kelley), Erin Fleming, Anne Fleming, Matthew Fleming (Rachelle), Stephen Fleming (Lee), Michael Fleming, Levi Keitz (Nichol), Kelly Keitz Englehart (Tim), Abby Keitz Cowan (Nate), Jessica Wightman Rockne (Jon), Courtnee Justice, Stacy Ulrich (Chris), Ryan Miller (Codi) and Danielle Miller and 28 great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sister Glowie Lewis Levanger of Payson. She was preceded in death by her husband Grant Fuller Wightman, her infant son Dana Grant Wightman, her son Clarke Lewis Wightman, and her grandson Brady Lewis Wightman.
Her parents and her brothers, James, Carlyle, Wayne, Leo, Theo, and Dale Lewis also preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at the Walker Sanderson Tribute Center, 85 East 300 South, Provo, Utah, on Saturday, June 15th at 11 am with a viewing from 9:30-10:30 preceding the funeral.
An earlier viewing will also be held at the mortuary on Friday evening from 6-8 pm.
