Charles Nathan Blackstone
Funeral services for Charles N. Blackstone, a resident of the Bayard community for nearly 70 years, will be held at 2:00 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Assembly of God Church. Mr. Blackstone passed away Tuesday morning, March 25, at a Scottsbluff hospital. He was 87 years of age.
The son of Alex and Luzetti (Angle) Blackstone, he was born Sept. 7, 1887 in Fenny County, Kansas. He came to Bayard and took up a homestead in 1906 and made this his life-long home. He was married to Lucy Mabel Bowers on Feb. 23, 1910 at Bayard. She preceded him in death. On Sept.21, 1955, he was married to Sylvia Alderman Peck at Bayard.
Mr. Blackstone was a charter member of the Assembly of God Church in Bayard.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, a son, a daughter and two brothers.
Left to mourn his death are his wife, Sylvia; four sons, Joe of Red Cloud, Nebr., Earl A. of Bayard, N. Homer of Alliance and Nolan of Scottsbluff; two daughters, Mrs. Douglas (Millir0 Butler of Englewood, Colo., and Mrs. Marlow (Mary L.) Newman of Gregory, S.D.; a sister:, Mrs. Minnie McLaughlin of Englewood; a step-son, Harold Altermon of Porter; three step-daughters, Mrs. Hazel Case of San Francisco, Mrs. Helen Earleywine of Los Angeles and Mrs. Harriett Case of Cherry Valley, Calif.; 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Donald Reid, pastor of the Assembly of God Church, will officiate at the services. Interment will be at the Bayard Cemetery. Plummer-Towne Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Blackstone, Jerry Butler, Jerald Snyder, Harry Bivens, Mony Case, Darrell Blackstone, Terry Newman and Roger Newman. Honorary pallbearers are Lloyd Nicholas, Ed Backer, Earl Manhattan and George Smith.
A memorial has been established to the Assembly of God Church in Bayard.
