Wm. Thomas "Tom" McCune Sr., Galesburg Chapel 76, of Galesburg died at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2013 in Rosewood Care Center.
He was born February 25, 1937 in Knoxville, the son of John H. and Edna L. (Noll) McCune. He married Nancy J. Downey on August 1, 1958 in Galesburg.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; two sons, W. Thomas (and Missy) McCune Jr. of Moline, Ill. and Rusty T. (and Julie) McCune of Arlington Heights, Ill.; six grandchildren, Morgan, Brock, Taylor, Joe, Maggie, and Christian; three great grandchildren, Kadence, Jada, and Brailynn; a brother, John Harvey McCune in Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Bartie McCune and Diana Dress; and a brother-in-law, Ralph Ecklund. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Glen McCune; and six sisters, Helen McLaren, Ruth Martin, Luella Mae Bowman, Edith Ecklund, Dorothy Rodgers, and Norma Arnold.
Tom was a tool and die maker working for the former Gale Products Division of Outboard Marine Corporation and then for J.H. Benedict in East Peoria. He retired in 1999. He was a member and union officer of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
Tom was a member of Central Congregational Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher for many years. In 1969, he was awarded the Young Religious Leader Award by the Galesburg Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Elks Lodge.
Visitation will be 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2013 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Private family burial will follow in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at Central Congregational Church. Rev. Jim Ecklund and Rev. Greg Ellcey will officiate. A luncheon will follow the service. Memorials may be made to Central Congregational Church.
