After his father's death, Samuel owned Rookes Hall and Huntwicke, Winteredge Hall at Hipperholme and Rogerthorpe in Badsworth. However, by 1611, Samuel was living primarily in Hull, having sold his property in Hipperholme to John Northend, his tenant. This particular property was later called Langley Hall and lost it's connection to the Saltonstall family.
Samuel married three wives: (1) Anne Ramsden, daughter of John Ramsden,Esq., ancestor of the Baronets Ramsden of Longley, near Huddersfield; (2) Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas Ogden and (3) Elizabeth Armine, widow of Hugh Armine, mayor of Hull.
Anne was the mother of Sir Richard of Huntwick, Knight; baptized at Halifax, England, April 4, 1586 and lord of the manor at Ledsham. He eventually traveled to the British Colonies, after the death of his first wife, as an Associate of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and an assistant to Governor John Winthrop.
Samuel's third wife, Elizabeth Bennington Armine, is depicted on her first husband's adjacent tomb stone. After Samuel's death, she married a third time to Walter Rudston, as his second wife, at North Newbald, on 12 Oct. 1615. (Thank you to contributor, Doc M, for her biographical input)
Samuel was buried at Holy Trinity Church, considered one of the largest Anglican parish churches in England. It dates back to about 1300. His stone reads: "HERE RESTETH IN PEACE SAMUELL SALTONSTALL ESQUIRE WHO DEPARTED THIS LIFE IN THE FAYTH OF CHRIST THE VIII DAY OF JANUARY ANNO DOMINI 1612." (Thank you to contributor DOC M for her photo and inscription)
His will, dated 12/31/1611, was proved in York on 7/22/1613.
