On May 1947 he made Birdsnest his home until his passing. He was a Catholic and had 30 years as the Brotherhood of Railroad. He had thirty years service and received honorable mention from the Pennsylvania Railroad when retired as waiter in charge of dining service.
He leaves a wife Bessie Press Cherry, a daughter Beatrice, a son James, Jr. and two grandchildren.
