"James Craig, Reeve of Charlottenburg, was elected Warden in January 1862. He was a son of James Craig, Sr., and his wife Helen Frue, and was born in 1823 at the homestead, lot No. 5 in the first concession of Indian Lands adjoining the Township of Charlottenburg, now owned by Mrs. Robert J. Craig. Apart from being a practical farmer, he engaged in lumbering and supplying wood to the Grand Trunk. Early in life, he showed an interest in public life, served in the Township Council and reached the top rung in municipal affairs before he was forty. In 1867, he was elected member of the Legislative Assembly for Glengarry and held that position until his death in 1874. He was an elder of St. John's Presbyterian Church, Cornwall, and took a prominent part in Church Courts. One of his daughters married the Honourable George Bryson of Fort Coulogne, Legislative Councillor for Quebec and active in the political life of that Province."
