A Time to be Born – Vanessa Gail Harris was the second oldest of five children. She was born on July 13, 1955 in Richmond, VA to Mr. & Mrs. George Harris, Sr.

A Time to Build – Vanessa was a 1974 graduate of the Louisa County High School. After graduation, she began to work at Holly Farms. She then left Holly Farms and began to work at Hartford Insurance Company for about 12 years until the company moved. Vanessa was employed by Anthem Insurance Company for 15 years.

A Time to Serve God – At the age of 12, Vanessa gave her life to Christ and was baptized at the Ebenezer Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Joseph Haden.

A Time to Unwind – Vanessa loved to watch TV. One of her favorite shows was True Blood. She loved her Redskins Football Team, enjoyed playing with her nieces and nephews and getting together with her sisters and going for a ride. Vanessa enjoyed the laughter with her parents and spending time with them. She loved playing softball, always played 1st base and helped to put the first District Banner in the Louisa High Gym in 1974. Even after graduating from high school, Vanessa played softball for the Mineral Mets, under the coaching of the late Harry Lee Houchens. Everyone would tell you that she was an outstanding first base player.

A Time to Die – Vanessa Gail Harris was called home on Saturday, June 8, 2013 to be with the Lord at 4:42am.

A Time to Weep – Vanessa leaves to cherish her loving memory, devoted mother and father, Mr. & Mrs. George Harris, Sr.; three sisters, Leatrice Pace (William), Odessa Harris, and Cheryl Harris, all of Mineral, VA; one brother, George Harris, Jr. (Barbara) of Mineral, VA; one nephew, Jermaine Pace (fiance Jackie Parrish) of Louisa, VA; two nieces, Chasity and Jasmine Harris of Mineral, VA; three great-nephews, Jermaine Pace, Jr., Jhalil Parrish and Sunta Grimm of Louisa, VA; five aunts, Nannie Johnson, Eva Shelton (Vergie), Shirley Johnson of Mineral, VA, Arlean Anderson (Warren) and Joyce Holt of Montpelier, VA; two uncles, Andrew and Thomas Harris of Mineral, VA; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Time to Celebrate: Homegoing services were held at 12 noon on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 864 Pendleton Road, Mineral, VA 23117, with Rev. William House officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
