Walton A. Langehennig, known by all as Wally, passed peacefully and surrounded by his family June 7, 2013 at the age of 90.

Wally was born on October 26, 1922 in Fredericksburg, Texas and grew up there. Wally served his country in the Army Air Corp June 25, 1943 to February 25, 1946. He retired from Kelly Air Base in San Antonio in 1980 after 38 years of civil service. Wally led an active life of service and leadership in his community and church. He coordinated the Meals on Wheels program at St. Margaret Mary's Church for over 20 years, recruiting and scheduling volunteers as well as delivering meals. He helped many through his dedicated service in St. Vincent de Paul Society, the St. Margaret Mary Clothing Room, and the St. Margaret Mary Men's Club. Wally coached CYO baseball, softball, and track. He was a committed fundraiser for St. Margaret Mary's Church and School. On February 2, 2013 he was awarded the Lumens Gentium Award by Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller in recognition of his service in the Life of the Church.

Wally also dedicated his life to his wife and family. He met Verena at a dance and they enjoyed going dancing often. Wally took his young family on camping and fishing trips. He fished and hunted with his grandsons and sons-in-law. He taught his daughters how to throw and bat a softball and safely use a pocketknife to whittle. Wally had a great knowledge of plants and thoroughly enjoyed growing them. He loved giving his children plants for their home landscapes and donated countless potted plants to St. Margaret Mary's Parish Festivals. He was a member of the Men's Garden Club of San Antonio.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Verena E. Stehling Langehennig; his 4 daughters, Janet Jendrzey, Jeanne Borlinghaus (Roger), Diane Mudd (Mike), and Julie Schreiner (Ron); 5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; brother, Kermit Langehennig (Billi Ann).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Regina (Thiele) Langehennig and brothers, Victor, Andrew, and Oliver.
