Clinton, Iowa - Archie A. "Sonny" Cook, Jr. age 74 of Clinton died Thursday June 6, 2013 at Mercy North Medical Center. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services will be held 11:30 am Tuesday June 11th at the Pape Funeral Home. A visitation will be held Tuesday 10:30 am until the service hour at the funeral home. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the family in lieu of flowers. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.

Archie was born on Oct. 21, 1938 in Clinton, the son of Archie and Elaine (Bark) Cook, Sr. Archie grew up on Beaver Island and loved sharing memories of his childhood there. In 1953, the Cook family moved to Fulton, IL. He attended Lyons High School. He married Carol Ann Miller on May 21, 1960 in Clinton, and they were married just short of celebrating their 44th wedding anniversary when Carol passed away on May 14, 2004. Archie worked at Curtis Company, Ringland & Johnson Construction, Chemplex, Stewart Poster Advertising, and for 35 years as a welder at Chicago Northwestern Railroad/Union Pacific, retiring in 2004.

Archie enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to hunt for turtles, deer, pheasant, ducks, rabbits, and squirrels. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He also enjoyed the sport of Boxing and NASCAR. He had a great love for Elvis, country music, and his automobiles. He also loved to cook.

Archie is survived by his two children, Kathi Ripperger of Des Moines, IA and David (Lynne) Cook of Lincoln, NE; two grandsons, Austin Ripperger and Joey Bloomer; two sisters, Grace (Chuck) Miller of Springfield, IL and Joan (Terry) Petrehn of Jacksonville, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Carol, and a brother, Bobby.
