Amos Dalrymple, who died at his home on the Creek road in this town on 24th inst., was a son of Asa Dalrymple who came from New Jersey to Mt Morris in the early part of the 19th century. He was born on the farm which his father cleared in the wilderness and which came into his possession some time after the death of his parents. In early life Mr Dalrymple followed the occupation of School teacher but later took up farming and followed that occupation up to within a short time of his death, when he was obligated to give up work on account of his health. Although for a time Mr. Dalrymple was a resident of Groveland he was identified with Mt. Morris and its people during his entire life. He was a representative man in every way and enjoyed the confidence and esteem of his fellow man, to an unlimited degree. In politics Mr Dalrymple was a democrat and at different times filled the office of highway commissioner and assessor and was a leader and advisor in his party for many years. He was a good citizen, a good neighbor and good friend and exemplified the golden rule, of doing unto others as he would have others do unto him, as few men do. In 1854 he was united in marriage to Miss Florence M. Darling and to them nine children were born, five of whom are now living. They are as follows: Melvin Dalrymple, of Hanford, California, Mrs. John H. Knappenbeig, of Sparta, Mrs. Malcolm Vanderbilt and A. V. Dalrymple, of Rochester, and Amos Dalrymple of Mt. Morris. Deceased is also survived by one brother and one sister, Mrs. Stephen Wisner, of this village, and J. W. Dalrymple, of Perry. The funeral was largely attended from the Dalrymple homestead on Friday of last week.
