James Belohlavek, 69, Mandan, died May 17, 2013 surrounded by his family at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Johnson Kuriappilly as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 20, 2013 from 2:00-8:00 PM at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 PM and a Parish Vigil at 7:15 PM. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

James A. Belohlavek Jr. was born to James A. and Clementine (Neibauer) Belohlavek on May 29, 1943, in Mandan, ND. He was raised and educated in Mandan. James attended Dickinson State University receiving his Bachelor degree in Education. He married Caroline Markel on August 29, 1965. Upon graduation he was a substitute teacher in the Bismarck and Mandan School Districts until he started helping his father-in-law with tree trimming which grew into Belohlavek Landscaping and Tree Trimming specializing in rock retaining walls.

They raised five children, Patty, Stephanie, Jim, Ken and Mike, in Mandan. Jim was active in various activities. He started the first ND snowmobile club called "Snow Goers." Jim and Carol were avid bowlers, winning several state championships. Jim was also a judge for the JC Demolition Derby. He loved fishing on the Missouri River where you could often see him from I-94 or at the Car Bodies. You could also see Jim sitting down to his favorite dinner, steak, and having late night discussions usually evolving into religion or politics. He was always up for a game of Pinochle. Jim could often be found at his favorite coffee spot he referred to as "Micky Dee's" (McDonalds) which is where he met Bev. Jim also loved to garden in his spare time.

Jim was a wrestler at Dickinson State University and continued with his love of wrestling by actively participating in his son's high school wrestling program by designing his own weight lifting machine and developing a physical fitness program for any high school athlete to motivate and improve their performance. In February 2014, he will be inducted into the ND Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Jim will be deeply missed by his special friend, Bev Rudnick, Mandan; daughters, Patty (Kelvin) Landeis, Maple Grove, MN, Stephanie (Joe) Geiger, Mandan; sons, Jim (Jolanta), Mandan, Ken (Naomi), Bismarck and Mike (Heidi), Mandan; 12 grandchildren, Victoria and Samantha Landeis, Christina and James Belohlavek, Lucas, (The Twinkees) Olivia and Elizabeth Geiger, Tom and Alexandra Belohlavek, Gabi, Ellie and Natalie Haroldson; sisters, Kathy Mosbrucker, Bismarck, Susie (Kent) Rehbein, Sidney, MT, Debbie (Lyle) Gabel, Bismarck; brother, George (Janice) Belohlavek, Mandan; mother-in-law, Clara Markel; Bev's nieces, Brooke Abby and Daizee Loen.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline on December 19, 1998; sister, Marian and brother-in-law Jim Lord; his parents and grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
