MARION - William E. "Bill" Deaton, 82, passed away at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, in Friendship Care Center in Herrin.

Bill was born July 19, 1927, in Marion, the son of Omer and Virdus (Ivy) Deaton.

He married Paralee Whitecotton on June 16, 1946, in Piggott, Ark., and together they shared more than 63 years of marriage.

He retired from Peabody Coal Company. Bill was a member of Second Baptist Church, UMWA and a lifetime member of Marion Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; great-granddaughter, Lindsey Nicole Furlong; two brothers, James Deaton and Rudolph "Doc" Deaton; and an infant sister, Lorene Deaton.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, in Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion, with Dr. Bob Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
