At a meeting of the San Francisco Medical Society held Friday, July 6, at the City Hall, Doctor Kirkpatrick was elected as an alternate delegate to the State Medical Society, to meet at Sacramento on July 11. (Daily Alta California, 8 Feb 1857, 2:4)

Charles A. Kirkpatrick, age 37 years, a Physician from Missouri, was enumerated at Montezuma, Solano County, California, in the 1860 Census with Mary Kirkpatrick 35, H. W. Kirkpatrick 1.

Charles Kirkpatrick accepted his commission and was mustered-in at Camp McDougal, near Stockton, San Joaquin County, California, as Assistant Surgeon, Third Regiment of Infantry, California Volunteers, October 1, 1861. A daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Charles Kirkpatrick, U. S. A. (sic), was born at Fort Humboldt, Humboldt County, California, March 31. (Daily Alta California, April 11 , 1862, 4:2) He mustered out at Camp Douglas, Salt Lake City, Utah Territory, November 1, 1864. He was commissioned March 7 at Fort Point, San Francisco, and mustered in April 18, 1865, as Surgeon, Eight Regiment of Infantry, California Volunteers. Surgeon C. A. Kirkpatrick, Eighth Infantry, C. V, was ordered to report for duty at Fort Point to relieve Assistant Surgeon E. W. Woods, same Regiment. When relieved, Assistant Surgeon Woods was ordered to report for duty at Point San Jose, San Francisco. The annual memorial meeting of George H. Thomas Post No. 2, G. A. R., Department of California, was held last night In Ruby Hall, Red Men's building, 320 Post street, in honor of comrades laid to rest during the year ending on the 25th of last April. The program carried out was as follows:

Introductory remarks, J. G. Giesting; prayer, Frank Symmes; chant "Come to Me," by the Eureka Quartet, consisting of Messrs. W. G. Woods, Mr. Keeley, J. M. Robinson and C. L. Parent, Jr., accompanied on the piano by Mrs. C. L. Parent; eulogies in memory of J. A. Gordon, who died April 23, 1891, Thomas Bolton, died May I6, 1891, and J. A. Baldwin, died July 5, 1891; barytone solo, "Resurrection," J. M. Robinson; eulogies in memory of J. H. Holden, died July, 14, 1891, Dr. George W. Hanley, died October 20, 1891, and Thomas H. Workman, died October 29, 1891 ; quartet, "Let Them Sleep." Eureka quartet; poem, "The Sea! The Sea!" (original) by Comrade T. H. Riordan, read by Comrade Vining; tenor solo, "Father, Lead Me by the Hand," W. G. -Woods; eulogies in memory of Commander Dr. E. Donnelly, died November 5, 1891, Dr. Samuel J. Corbett, died November 12. 1891, and Dr. G. M. Pease, died December 14,1891; quartet, "I'm a Pilgrim and I'm a Stranger," Eureka quartet; eulogies ln memory of Comrade Erickson, lost at sea in November, 1891, by the foundering of the brig Tahiti, W. F. de Forest, died December 14, 1891, and August Volz, died December 19, 1S91; bass solo, "Supplication." by 0. L. Parent, Jr.; address, "Self-sacrifice," Comrade Warren Olney; quintet, "By the Dark Euphrates' Stream," Eureka quartet and Mrs. Parent; eulogies In memory of George F. Harris, died December 22, 1891. Dr. C. A. McCash, died January 19, 1892, and Jerome Miller, died February 9, 1892; quartet by the Eureka's. "Nearer. My God, to Thee"; benediction by Comrade Frank Symmes.
The hall was crowded, and the services were very impressive. Commander Getting announced that since the organization of the post in 1880, 85 had responded to "taps," of whom 18 had passed away during 1891 and until this date this year. This Includes Dr. C. A. Kirkpatrick, post surgeon and California pioneer, who died at St. Luke's Hospital in this city April 27 and was buried on the 29th in Redwood City. (San Francisco Call, May 4, 1892,8:3)
