James Callen was born on March 21, 1808 in "Last Night" Armstrong Co, PA. Last Night was the patented name of a farm owned by his father located near Kittanning.
James married Mary Wilson on June 30, 1836, but had no children by that marriage. After her death James married Eliza W (Laughlin) Dixon of Juniata Co, PA, who had first married William Dixon by whom she had 3 children [correction 4 children]. Eliza was born May 14, 1811.
Jame and Eliza were married in Clarion county and settled on a farm in Piney Twp. "They were faithful members of the Presbyterian Church and were highly esteemed by all who knew them. James was a Democrat in politics, and a farmer by occupation.

Death has again cast a gloom over our community by calling James Callen, an aged citizen of this place to that home beyond the grave. The deceased was a sufferer for some time. His remains were buried in the Callensburg cemetery. Rev. Wilson of Callensburg preached the funeral sermon. (Same issue) On March 13, 1891 at the old homestead in Piney township, James Callen aged 82 years, 11 months and 22 days. The deceased was well and favorably known. He was a sufferer from a complication of diseases. He was always patient, though longing to go to his final rest. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He leaves two sons, two daughters and thirty-five grandchildren to mourn his loss.
