SAN ANTONIO - PFC, Janet Melendez, 20, of Kerrville, TX passed from this life tragically on Saturday, June 1, 2013 in San Antonio, TX. Born in Columbia, SC, she was the oldest child of Jaime and Catalina Limon-Melendez.

Janet graduated from Ingram Tom Moore High School in 2010 where she was most interested in academics. She studied a lot, but was well known for "Always Smiling!" After high school, Janet enlisted in the U S Army in 2011, being assigned to Fort Jackson for basic training. Upon completion of training she was then assigened to Fort Sam Houston for the Army Reserves. She was a U S Army Private First Class (E-3)in the 340th Quartermaster Company, 363rd Quartermaster Battalion, 300th Sustainment Brigade.

A devout member of Nortre Dame Catholic Church, Janet will be missed by her church family. Janet worked at Altos De Jalisco #4 Restraunt in Ingram, TX before joining her parents at the El Sombrero Restraunt in Kerrville, TX.

Those left behind to honor and cherish her memory are her parents, Jaime and Catalina Limon-Melendez; siblings, Luis, Jamie, Omar, and Aaron; grandparents, Alfredo and Eva Limon and Luis and Evangelina Melendez; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, along with her military family whom she cherished greatly.

A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 6 PM, Wednesday, June 5, 2013 in the Chapel of Kerrville Funeral Home, 1221 Junction Highway, Kerrville, TX. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Notre Dame Catholic Church, corner Washington and Water Streets, Kerrville, TX. Interment with full active duty Military Honors will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 3250 Fredericksburg Road, Kerrville, TX.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of professionals at Kerrville Funeral Home.

Janet was killed in a one vehicle accident on IH 10 in San Antonio, TX while rushing to Fort Sam Houston for a 5 AM flight to Fort Bragg in North Carolina for training.
