Luis B. Maldonado, 83, of Newark, N.J., passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2013. Funeral is at 8:30 a.m. Friday from the Megaro Memorial Home, 503 Union Ave., Belleville, N.J. Mass is at 10 a.m. at St. Lucy's Church, 118 7th Ave., Newark, N.J. Interment is in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, N.J.. Born in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, Mr. Maldonado came to the United States 60 years ago. He was employed by Varityper in East Hanover, N.J., for over 35 years, retiring 20 years ago. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was active in his community and was a member of the Guard of Honor and Legion of Mary, both of St. Lucy's Church. Mr. Maldonado is survived by his wife, Carmen (nee Rivera); sons, Louis A. and Jeffrey Maldonado; daughters, Janice Cardona and her husband, Angelo, and Magda Maldonado; grandchildren, Louis A. Maldonado Jr., Heather A. Hinton, and Allison Estremera; great-grandchildren, Louis A. 3rd and James J.; a sister, Antonia Mayor de Santiago, and three cousins, Olga Santiago Mayor, Aldalberto Santiago, and Hilda Rosa Santiago. He was predeceased by his son, Robert L.
