TEXAS CITY — Mrs. Sadie B. Mayes departed this life to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 9, 2007, at her home.

Mrs. Mayes was born to the union of Clabe Brown and Lula Houston Brown on January 16, 1922 in Somerville, Texas.

Mrs. Mayes was employed at Mainland Hospital in Texas City as a Physical Therapist Assistant until her retirement. She was a dedicated member of Greater Barbour's Chapel Baptist Church where she actively served as a Deaconess, on the Usher Board and the Missionary Society; and was a member of Lakeview Court #262 Heroines of Jericho. She also served as Queen Mary of Jewel Palace.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Nathaniel Mayes, Sr.; two sons, Maurice Mayes and Nathaniel Mayes, Jr.; and siblings, Fannie Terry, Mattie Heard, Jewel Love, Edna Colquitt, Elmo Brown and Effie Brown Whiting.

Left to cherish her loving and most precious memories are her children, Beatrice Mayes Clabon, Katherine Guillory, Curtis Lee Mayes, Sr., Floyd Mayes (Katie) and Gary Lawrence Mayes; devoted sister-in-law, Gussie Jones; 26 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren; 40 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held after 4:00 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2007, at Greater Barbour's Chapel Baptist Church, 7420 FM 1765 in Texas City where a wake will be held from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. with family, friends and ministers giving expressions on Mrs. Mayes' life. Home Going Services will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2007, at Greater Barbour's Chapel Baptist Church with Pastor James E. Brown, Sr., officiating. Burial will follow at Mainland Memorial Cemetery in Hitchcock under the direction of Mainland Funeral Home of La Marque.
