Christine Wharton Richie comes from a pioneer family going back to the Colonial days. Her father's family moved to Indian Territory where her grandfather, Dr. John Thomas Wharton, was a pioneer doctor and farmer in Duncan, Oklahoma. Her mother's family moved to Indian Territory where her grandfather was a scholar, teacher, and farmer.

Christine met Ellis Bert Richie at the Southeastern State Teachers College in Durant, Oklahoma, where both Christine and Ellis got degrees in Education. They then moved to McAlester, Oklahoma, where Ellis taught school. They had twin daughters while living in McAlester.

When the 2nd world war began, Ellis, as part of the Oklahoma 45th National Guard Division, was called into service. Christine then followed her husband as he moved from one part of the country to another for training before being deployed to the European front.

Prior to the Korean War, Ellis got out of the service and was principal at a junior high school in Norman, Oklahoma. That was short lived, however, since Ellis was again called into service with the 45th Division.

While Ellis was in Korea, Christine taught school in Norman. Later, Ellis served in Germany and there Christine continued to teach school on base in Germany.

Christine was a wonderful mother and wife and always had many friends. She and Ellis kept in contact with cherished relatives and friends they made throughout the years.

Christine lived to see her grandchildren marry and know three of her 6 great grandchildren.
