HALDEMAN--Father Jacob Haldeman died in the triumphs of a living faith June 25, 1870, in Morrow County, Ohio, aged 86 years, 8 months and 16 days. He came from Pennsylvania 51 years ago and about 40 years ago he opened the doors of his house for Gospel preaching, and from that time forth his house was a home for our preachers. Eight years after taking up preaching, he was converted to God, united with our Church and was a pattern of piety and a waymark for many, to the kingdom, up to the time of his demise. After his conversion, his house and barn were open for special meetings, and many souls were converted under his roof. He also supported the good cause, and did much for the Evangelical Association. Many follow his good example.

Father H was confined to his bed but two days. He had the heart disease for many years, but bore his affliction willingly. In my frequent visits during the last weeks, I found him fully resigned to the will of God, and toward the last he was frequently filled unutterably full of the sweet love of God, and said that he saw his way clear open to glory world. A short time before his departure he called his aged companion to his bedside to bid her farewell for a short time, after living with her in holy matrimony 65 years, and told her to prove faithful "for in heaven you will meet me again". He called his children in like manner and bid them farewell with a similar admonition to prove faithful to their high calling, especially those two who have the office of the ministry, to be obedient in their office and never to suffer prayer meetings to go down in their class. He then called his grandchildren to form a ring around his bed, after which he bid them farewell from the oldest to the youngest, urging them all to meet him in heaven. He then requested to have another prayer meeting and with a loud voice began to sing "Ich weiss ein Land voll reiner Freud", etc. This was a time better imagined than described. His end was like that of Jacob of old.

Father H leaves a deeply afflicted widow in her 90th year and a large circle of friends to mourn his departure, but not as such who have no hope. One has gone before. Funeral services, in German, by the writer, from Rev. xiv 13, followed in English by Bro. Silar, of the U. B. Church.
