Dulce Faehnrich and Melvin Lommen Married

Charming in a gown of blue velvet with metallic trimming and carrying an arm bouquet of Johanna Hill roses, Miss Dulce Inez Faehnrich of Alexandria, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Faehnrich of Parkers Prairie, became the bride of Mr. Melvin Lommen, son of Mrs. Ole Lommen, of Alexandria Township.
The service was read at ten o'clock Sunday morning at the parsonage of the First English Lutheran church by the pastor Rev. C. E. Hansen. Miss Elma Lommen, sister of the groom, was bridesmaid. Her gown was of plum color crepe and she wore a shoulder bouquet of Talisman roses. Mr. Malcolm Faehnrich, brother of the bride, was best man.
The groom wore an oxford grey suit and the best man wore dark blue.
A dinner at one o'clock was given at the bride's home for members of the immediate families with covers laid for forty-five.
The bride graduated from the Alexandria high school in 1927 and has been a deputy in the office of the county treasurer for the past five years. Mr. Lommen manages his mother's farm where the young couple will be at home after a wedding trip through northern Minnesota and Canada. Miss Charmaine Faehnrich and Richard Faehnrich of Fargo were out of town guests.

Melvin Lommen of Crosby, Minnesota, and formerly of Alexandria, died on June 16, 2002 at Crosby, at the age of 95.
Conrad Melvin Lommen was born on March 25, 1907 in Alexandria township, son of Ole and Anna (Barness) Lommen. Rev. B.A. Benson baptized Melvin on April 22, 1907 in the Nelson church. Melvin grew up and attended school in District 36. He was confirmed on June 11, 1922 by Reverend Tornholm. His father died when he was four years old and his mother died in 1946. Uncle Endre Lommen, who lived with the family, died at age 91 in 1942. Melvin helped on his mother's farm until 1937 when he purchased his own farm nearby and continued farming until he sold the farm and moved to town in 1985.
Melvin's hobbies included collecting all kinds of bells. He loved to attend auctions.
Melvin was a lifelong member of Our Saviour's Lutheran church in Nelson, which he helped build in 1924. On October 6, 1935, Melvin married Dulce Faehnrich. Together they had two sons, James and Guy.
James resides in Montgomery Alabama after 20 years in the US Air Force, with his wife Barbara and 4 children.
Guy and his wife Susan live in Deerwood.
Melvin was one of the original residents at the Nelson Gables in Alexandria from June 1996 to March 1999. He moved to Brainerd and then to Crosby at the Cuyuna Care Center in Crosby in 1999.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dulce in 1997, uncle Endre, infant sister Olga, sisters, Olga Glade, Klara Jensen and Elma Wahlstrom, and brothers Edward, Alfred, and Olam Lommen. Melvin is survived by his two sons and their families, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on June 19, 2002 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church with Rev. Merlin Bartelt and Rev. Marilee Bergerson officiating. Bev Steuck was the organist and Donna Eastman, soloist.
Interment was in Nelson Cemetery. Palbearers were Paul Lommen, Orrin Lommen, Jerry Fischer, Warren Olson, Rick Faehnrich and Dennis Stadsvold.
Anderson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
