Terry Cloyd Rodgers, M.D., Psychoanalyst, died on November 13, 2003 at Scripps Memorial Hospital, La Jolla. He was born on January 7, 1917 in Wilmar, Arkansas, the son of Frances and Richard Rodgers. In 1940, he graduated from the University of Arkansas Medical School at Fayetteville. He received his psychoanalytic training at the Psychoanalytic Center for Training and Research, Columbia University, New York. Dr. Rodgers had practices in Little Rock, New York City, and Norfolk, Virginia. He served as a physician in the U.S. Navy from 1941-1946.
Dr. Rodgers is survived by his wife of 42 years, Dr. Janet Ahalt Rodgers and three daughters, Terry Kathryn Wheeler of Kansas City, Karen Ann Rodgers of Albuquerque, and Rebecca Mae Blackley of Elkins, West Virginia, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Lenore and David Bandler, and nephews, Steven Bandler and Robert Bandler.
Dr. Rodgers was cherished and dearly loved by his family, who enjoyed his keen intellect and his wry humor. In addition to his private practices, he held academic appointments at the College of Medicine, University of Arkansas; the Downstate Medical Center of the State University of New York; College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University, New York; the Eastern Virginia Medical School of Norfolk, Virginia, and the University of California, San Diego.
He also held many Clinical Appointments. Dr. Rodgers was President of the Virginia Psychoanalytic Society, served on many local and national professional committees, and belonged to national and international psychoanalytic societies. He presented numerous psychoanalytic papers, and authored professional journal articles. He was an editor of The Bulletin, Association for Psychoanalytic Medicine from 1960-1976.
A Memorial Mass is planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts to the Janet Rodgers A. Rodgers Nursing Scholarship Fund, Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science, University of San Diego. Published in The San Diego Union Tribune on Nov. 19, 2003.
