Daughter of John Miller Jean (1828 Ind.-1903 Ill.) and Rebecca Ann Taylor (1830 Ind.-1893 Ill.). Carrie lost her hearing to spinal meningitis at age 18 months. She attended Illinois Institution for the Deaf at Jacksonville. Carrie married Granville Seymour Redmond (1871-1935) in Crawford Co., Illinois, on 1 Nov 1899. They lived in California where he became one of America's leading impressionist painters, a California landscape artist, many of them florals featuring poppies and lupines. He was also a deaf mute from age 2. They had three children, sons Jean Granville and Hiram, and daughter Helen.
Carrie's brothers were: Charles Fletcher Jean (1856-1913), Edward Thomas Jean (1859-1902), John T. Jean (1861-1914), James B. Jean (1863/64-?), Franklin Albert Jean (1865/66-?), and Willie Jean (1869-1870).
