∼Cora Austin Simmons, 74, of Frisco, NC died Monday, July 17, 2017, at Peak Resources – Outer Banks. A native of Hatteras, she was the daughter of the late Irma Midgett Austin and Fred B. Austin II and the widow of Alva Arnold Simmons, Sr.
Former treasurer of the Democratic Women's Part, Cora worked as a loan officer and teller with East Carolina Bank. She was a former member of Kiwanis, and VFW Women's Auxiliary, as well as a member of Hatteras United Methodist Church.
Cora is survived by three sons, Anthony Simmons of Greenville, Kerry Simmons, and Kevin Simmons, both of Frisco; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Fred B. "Barry" Austin III and wife, Sarah of Hatteras.
A funeral will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 21, 2017, at Hatteras United Methodist Church with Rev. Toni Wood and Rev. Dwight Burrus officiating. Burial will take place at the Ballance Cemetery in Buxton, NC. The family will receive friends and relatives Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the church.
