David married Mary Sybil Heald who was born about 1814 in Louisville, Ky; she died at the age of 21 around the time that their second son Alexander was born in 1835; first son Nathan Heald, or N. H., was born in 1833.
Mary Sybil was possibly buried in the original St. Charles city cemetery, but there isn't a clear record of that. She was the daughter of Nathan Heald and Rebecca Wells Heald, both buried at Mt. Zion in O'Fallon, Mo., where Darius Heald, their son, was buried.
David McCausland seems to be the one recorded in the 1840 census which showed him and his household in the town of St. Charles. There were a total of 10 persons recorded for his listing, no females at that time, only males of various ages. He and his wife had only 2 sons though. So it's unclear from the 1840 if the others in the census were relatives or workers on his property, because no names were recorded that year other than head of household.
From the 1882 obit:
"Capt. David McCausland, age 75, died July 28, at the residence of Bailey Johnson on Dardenne Prairie. He was an Irishman, and married Mary Heald, daughter of Capt. Nathan Heald; sister of D. Heald. They had 2 sons, Nathan and Alexander. He was buried in the family burying ground on place of D. Heald, Esq. on July 30." (From the Aug 4, 1882 edition of the St. Charles Journal)
D. Heald's (Darius Heald's) property in 1860 and also in 1900 was in Dardenne, Mo., which is probably where the "family burying ground" was, though Darius himself was buried in Mt. Zion, O'Fallon, Mo., in 1904. Darius was the brother-in-law of Capt. McCausland.
