Mrs. Watkins worked for the American Thread Company as a winder for years. Later in life she enjoyed working for the clothing industry, but her true love was the farm life. She could often be found toiling in her many garden plots, where she would grow and then can her own produce. Mrs. Watkins was fond of animals of all sorts, but mainly those that had a viable use. She took great pride in her care for them. She had everything from peacocks to pigs, and any other animal that Bill would have on their farm. Though she enjoyed her gardens and animals, her greatest thrill was the company of anyone who happened to stop in for a visit. Mrs. Watkins was Baptist by faith, and in various ways she tried to reflect that love that was shown to her.
Mrs. Watkins is survived by her children, Joyce Robinson, of Loyd, FL; Carolyn Carroll, of Buchanan, GA; Natalie Watkins, of Anniston, AL; and Bobby Watkins, of Buchanan, GA; six brothers, and two sisters; thirteen grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers serving were Hoyt Layton, Bobby Layton, Curtis Layton, Kenneth Layton, Gary Layton, and Herman Holden. Honorary pallbearer was James Layton.
Interment followed in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Buchanan, GA.
