Helen was born in West Plains, MO., the daughter of John J. and Gladys Bennett Stein. On March 12, 1949, she was married at Salem, Arkansas to Joe Paul Evans.
Helen often answered her phone "It's a beautiful day in the Ozarks". Her motto was "My day was never wasted if I did something for someone else each day". She loved working with children, she served as Sunday School teacher, home room mother, Boy Scout and Girl Scout leaders, and a CASA volunteer.
Helen was the mother of Dr. Randall Evans, Dr. Susan Wittenburg and The Honorable David Evans.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 27, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
