Amie B. Smith, 86, formerly of Onaga, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the Olathe Medical Center from complications of Parkinson‘s Disease.
She was born October 30, 1926 east of Manhattan, the daughter of Raymond and Sibyl Smith Newell. She attended school in the Oak Grove and Zeandale communities.
She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Onaga.
Amie married Leonard T. Smith on April 16, 1954 at Onaga. He died April 16, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Noralee N. Smith, sisters, Esther Toothaker, Marjorie Ferguson and Alice Maiden, and brothers, David Newell and Harold Newell.
Survivors include her children, Raymond Smith and wife Deborah, Roeland Park, Bernice Wassell and husband Larry, Grand Prairie, TX, Martha Smith, Shawnee, James Smith and wife Laura, Basehor, and Ella Smith and Robert Folsom, both of Shawnee; two sisters, Lola Zwahl, Horton, and Rosalee O'Roke, Onaga, and grandchildren, Carrie Smith, Shawnee, Val Smith, Minneapolis, MN, Jennifer and Michael Wassell, Grand Prairie, TX, and Ian and Alec Smith, Basehor.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 3rd at the First Congregational UCC. Burial will follow in the Onaga Cemetery. Amie will lie in state after 10:00 a.m. Sunday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga, where family and friends will meet from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Heartland Chapter of the National Parkinson Foundation, and may be sent in care of the funeral home, P.O.
