Mrs. Ellen C. Arter, 82, of Shawnee Avenue, Columbia, died Monday at 6:45 p.m. at Columbia Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Eugene L. Arter. She was a member of First Church of God, Columbia, and the Ladies Bible Class of the Sunday school. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Maris and Clara Groff Aston. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Chester H. Arter Sr., with whom she resided, and Eugene Arter, Folsom, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two sister, Mrs. Blanche Markley, Manchester, and Mrs. Ruth Warner, and one brother, Clarence Aston, both of Columbia.
