Daughter of Thomas and Sarah Smith Downing, she married Robert Valentine 23 Jun 1811. They had three children: Sara, Anna, and Thomazine. Robert died two years after Thomazine's birth, but Elizabeth did not remarry. She spent most of the rest of her life with her two daughters that did not mary, Sara and Thomazine; and later the three lived with Anna.
