Rosemary H. Ego, 88, of Normal, and most recently of Luther Oaks in Bloomington, died at 2:53 a.m. Friday (May 24, 2013) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, following a brief illness.

Rosemary was born near Mt. Carmel, IL, in the St. Sebastian area of Wabash County. She was the youngest of the 7 children of Martin Andrew and Matilda Anna (Berberich) Peter.

She married James J. Ego on January 17, 1950 at St. Sebastian Church in Wabash County, IL. He died on July 3, 2009.

She was also pre-deceased by her parents and siblings; a son, Steven P. Ego and an infant daughter, Debra Ann.

Survivors include a daughter, 2 sons, 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Rosemary's adventurous and competitive spirit resulted in her being the first and only girl to play on her grade schools all-boys basketball team.

Always being a music lover, she got her first guitar in grade school and was self-taught. She loved to play and sing and once performed on WLS radio in Chicago.

She met her husband, Jim, who was serving in the United States Marine Corp, when she was working for the United States Army on the Island of Guam. She played guitar and sang in a band while on Guam. The band also toured other Mariana Islands entertaining the troops. Prior to sailing to her Guam assignment she worked at Navy Pier in Chicago.

After returning to the states and marrying Jim, she enjoyed being his partner and raising their family. Rosemary was devoted to her Catholic faith and served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. Her love of music continued throughout her life.

Her obituary can found in the Bloomington, Illinois Pantagraph published May 27, 2013.
