Donna Marie Hill, age 85, passed away January 29, 2007. Donna was a former resident of Mesa, Arizona.

She was born December 11, 1921 in Salt Lake City, UT, but spent most of her adult life in New York City. She received a B.A. degree from George Washington University in Washington D.C., and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She also earned a Masters Degree from Columbia University in New York City. Donna worked at Hunter College (NYC) from 1964 to 1984 and earned the rank of Professor as Head of the Education Library. She gained national recognition for her art and also for her writing. She wrote numerous books for children, teens and adults. Her best known work was "Joseph Smith, the First Mormon." In 1999 she received the Christopher Award for her novel, "Shipwreck Season."

Donna was predeceased by her parents, Clarence Henry Hill and Emma Wirthlin Hill. She is survived by her sister, Marjorie H. (Darrell) Smith of Mesa, Arizona; two brothers, Robert W. (Jean) Hill of Cedar Valley, UT; and Marvin S. (Lila) Hill of Orem, UT; many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. She will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held Sat., February 10, 2007, 11:00 a.m. (viewing at 10:00 a.m.) at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT.
