He was born January 5, 1917, in Clearfield, son of the late John and Ellen Nickapoplas Chicola.
On June 7, 1940, in Cumberland, Md., he married Marian Rachocki, who preceded him in death May 1, 1994.
He is survived by two daughters, Marcia (Mrs. David) Smith of Weedville, Veronica Richards of St. Marys; four sons, John Chicola and his wife, Nancy, of Byrnedale, Steve Chicola and his wife, Veronica, of St. Marys, Joseph Chicola and his wife, Linda, of St. Marys, Gregory Chicola and his wife, Nancy, of Force; 28 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Hannah Golba; and three brothers, Michael, Nick and Frank Chicola. He was the last member of his immediate family.
Mr. Chicola was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Clearfield schools. He retired from the Stackpole Carbon Co. in 1982 after 15 years of service and also was a former miner and had worked construction. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church and a member of the Penfield Firemen. He had raised a number of grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Steve F. Chicola Sr. will be celebrated in St. Joseph's Church, Force Wednesday at 1:00 p.m., with the Rev. Thomas Tyler, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Basil's Cemetery, Coalport.
