Born in Fries, Va., Mr. Byrd lived in Greensboro for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, and was a former minister of the church. Mr. Byrd had been employed by Synbar Corporation until failing health mandated his early retirement.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Steve and John Byrd.
Survivors include his loving family members: his wife of 60 years, Irene Byrd of the home; daughter, Tracy of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Janice B. and Dan Meetze of Winterville; son and daughter-in-law, Roger D. and Diana Byrd of Greensboro; son, Rudy Wayne Byrd of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
