It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jackie Almon, at the Northside General Hospital, on Wednesday, May 22, 2013.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Baptiste and Emily (McMullin) Almon.
Jackie spent his early years in Sydney, before moving with his family to Georges River, where he would spend most of his life.
He worked for a few years in Toronto, but returned home to Georges River and spent several years working at the Handy Andy store in North Sydney. Jackie would then spend 20 years as a taxi driver with Stagg's Taxi in North Sydney until his retirement.
He is survived by his sisters, Dorothy Kennedy RN, New Waterford, Marguerite Yost RN, Fayetteville, New York, Beverly (Earl) MacKinnon, North Sydney; by his brothers, Greg (Teresa) New Market, Ont., Robert (Dottie) and Denis, both of North Sydney.
Jackie was predeceased by sisters, Frances RN (Joseph) Long, Loretta (Alex) McNeil, Beatrice Almon; his brothers, Lawrence (Marcelle), Harold and Joseph.
Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Friday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Joseph Church North Sydney, with Rev. Patrick O'Neill, officiating. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bras d'Or.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice in Jackie's memory.
