After completing his medical education, Dick joined Tom Wiegert's practice in Sunnyside in 1961. He spent 30 years dedicated to the people of Sunnyside running an active family practice. Dick also was one of the founders of Lower Valley Hospice, the second hospice organization in the state of Washington, and was receiving hospice care at his death.

In addition, to his great love of the outdoors, Dick also loved painting, knitting, music and competitive poker and gin rummy.
