First son and first of seven children of William Boynton and Elizabeth Jackson, who arrived with Reverend Ezekiel Rogers on the ship 'John' of London in 1638 and helped to establish the town of Rowley, Massachusetts. All children were born in Rowley. From same sources, it is also a researched presumption that John's brother, Zachary, is buried here in an unmarked grave.

Rowley Burial Ground was the only 17th century Rowley Cemetery, therefore although no grave has been found, it is a fair assumption that this is his place of burial. Grave markers were often made of wood prior to the 18th century, so any marker would have long since disappeared.
As there are no other burials found for 1665 that are on a 'same' day, we conclude he was buried the day he died. As cause of death is unknown, it could be due, for example, to communicable disease or common practice at the time that he would be interred on the day of death, and we are therefore citing his death date the same day as his burial date.
