April 5, 1917-March 14, 2009 Obed Earl Cook, 91, Redkey, died Saturday at Miller's Merry Manor in Dunkirk. Born in Redkey to David Earl and Meredith M. (Armstrong) Cook, he was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II and received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with six bronze stars. He retired as a truck driver from the Indiana Department of Transportation. Memberships include V.F.W. Post No. 7081 in Dunkirk and American Legion Post No. 401 in Redkey. Survivors include a daughter, Beverly S. Cook, Redkey; three sons, David E. Cook, Redkey, Greg E. Cook and Scott R. Cook, both of Portland; three sisters, Phyllis McLaughlin and Janis L. Current, both of Redkey, and Marilyn Sue Pittenger, Muncie. Services are Thursday at 11 a.m. at MJS. Mortuaries Redkey Chapel with Pastor Joe Hines officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Redkey with military graveside rites conducted by V.F.W. Post No. 7081 and American Legion Posts No. 507, 227, 401 and 158. Visitation is Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
