GALESBURG - David B. Allen, 85, 1232 N. Cherry St., died at 10:46 a.m. Friday (Dec. 30, 2005) in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born July 13, 1920, in Beloit, Wis., the son of Edwin H.Allen Sr. and Jessie Buell/Belle nee Lowry.
He married Barbara Brooks on June 29, 1947, in Newburyport, Mass. He served in the Army Air Corps for 3 years in WWII, stationed in Europe.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, James (and Kathy) Allen, Baraboo, Wis., and David Paul Allen, Duluth, Ga.; two daughters, Deborah Johnson, Galesburg, and Katherine Allen (and Mark) Lause, Cincinnati, Ohio; four grandchildren; and two step grandchildren.
"He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Howe Jr.and "his maternal grandparents Adam and Anna Marie(Crothers) Lowry who immigrated from Ireland and married in Pennsylvania, settling their family in Rock Co., LaPrairie Township of Janesville, WI.
His two older Lowry aunts Martha and Mary Jane were born (PA.)there and the next six aunts/uncles were born in Rock Co., LaPrairie Township, Janesville, WI-Grace Maud. Emma, Ella. Blaine, Jas, Jesse Belle;" He was preceded in death by his parents, maternal grandparents Adam Watt Lowry and Anna Marie Crothers Lowry, aunts/uncles Lowry and paternal grandparents, Uncle Howe Allen Jr." per writing/maintenance by second cousin Colleen Marie Lowry. Cousinship of the Lowry families continue in WI. of Jesse Lowry Allen relation.

He graduated from Janesville, Wis., and from Milton College in 1946 and received a master's degree at Western Illinois University in 1964.
He taught music at Eagle River High School in Eagle River, Wis., then was a music teacher in Galesburg District 205, Ill. for 29 years, retiring in 1980.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir from 1951 to 1992. He was a member of the Galesburg Community Chorus from 1952 to 1984 and directed junior high church choir for many years.

Per creator cremation will be accorded. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. David Parker officiating. Family will receive friends following the service at the church. Burial will be later in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
