Roberta Deal was born Feb. 27, 1912 to Samuel & Vina J. Arrasmith Deal in Ames, Iowa. She was a student in the local junior high school. On Dec. 18, 1927 she developed severe abdominal pain revealing acute appendicitis. She underwent emergency appendectomy, which revealed a perforated appendix. She developed peritonitis ( an infection in the abdomen). I'm not sure which antibiotics were available at that time, but, antibiotics would have been the only treatment for this situation. She passed away December 21, 1927. She was buried on December 21, 1927 in the Ames Municipal cemetery.
