George Cowie, Sr., highly regarded Desire resident, passed away in his home Monday morning after a lengthy illness.

The deceased was born in Scotland the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Cowie on November 18, 1878. When a young man he came to this country and on September 4, 1902, was united in marriage to Mary V. Malone.

Surviving him are: four daughters, Mrs. DAvid Hile, Mrs. Kenneth Butson, of Reynoldsville; Sarah and Janet, at home; one son, James at home, and the following brothers and sisters: Alex Cowie, Thomas Cowie, Agnes Cowie, Mrs. William Crop, Mrs. George Steele Sr., all of Helvetia, and Mrs. George McLachlan of Indiana.

Funeral services were held in the bereaved home Wednesday afternoon. Burial was made in I.O.O.F. cemetery in Desire.

George Cowie, Sr., well known resident of Desire, died in his home there Monday morning at 6:30 o'clock after a long illness of carcinoma.

The deceased was born in Scotland, November 18, 1878, the son of Thomas and Grace Dunn Cowie. He came to this country when a young man and married Mary V. Malone on September 4, 1902, in Limestone, N.Y. He lived in Desire practically all his adult life and was held in the highest esteem there.

He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and the B.P.O.E. lodges in Reynoldsville.

He leaves the following sons and daughters: Mrs. David Hile, Mrs. Kenneth Butson, both of Reynoldsville; Sarah, Janet, and James at home. He also leaves these brothers and sisters: Mrs. George McLachlan, of Indiana; Alex, Thomas, Agnes, Mrs. William Crop, Mrs. George Steele, Sr., all of Helvetia.

Funeral services will be held in the home in Desire at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Louis Wesphal will officiate and burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Desire.
