Ruth C. Smith, 93, of Bloomington, passed away Thursday at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on June 30, 1918 in Monroe County, IN, the daughter of John and Lena Frances (Rose) Conard.
Ruth graduated from Bloomington High School.
She retired after 17 years of service with Indiana University as a secretary and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Ruth is survived by her husband Ross Smith; two daughters Joyce Anne Shanks and Sherry Simpson (Bill); three sisters Ethel Gorsuch, Gertrude Gwin and Betsy Turner; three grandchildren Jason Shanks (Allison), Ross Simpson and Sarah Allen (Jon); and two great-grandchildren Nikau and Kai Shanks.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters Alice Stevens, Helen Young and Frances Rogers, and one brother Glen Conard.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm Monday, April 23, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church, 219 E. 4th Street, Bloomington, IN.
A private family service was held at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
